Can you take the express bus from Amsterdam to Keukenhof using the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (ARTT) or Amsterdam Travel Card?

I will share the best or cheapest card to explore the Keukenhof and how to have your perfect day with the tulips and more!

Get to Keukenhof using the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket?

During the tulip season, you can visit the Keukenhof using the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (ARTT). Let me show you how to plan your perfect day using this card.

You can take Tulip Express Bus 852 from Amsterdam RAI Station or bus 858 from Schiphol to Keukenhof.

What does Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (ARTT) cover?

Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (ARTT) includes the bus, tram, and train around Amsterdam, Zaandam, Haarlem, and Schiphol (see more info in the picture below).

It is the only transportation pass that covers the trip to Keukenhof from Amsterdam and Schiphol. You cannot travel to Keukenhof with an Amsterdam Travel Ticket.

Who should buy this card?

The official Keukenhof combination tickets only depart from Schiphol, Amsterdam RAI Station, Leiden, or Haarlem.

It costs even more if your accommodation is not nearby since you must commute to the bus stop.

It is a perfect option for commuting to Schiphol or Amsterdam RAI Station from Amsterdam, Haarlem, or Zaandam since the ARTT card covers all the transportation costs.

Furthermore, if you buy the Keukenhof combination tickets departing from Schiphol Airport, you must pay an extra EUR 5 to get on the return express bus to Amsterdam RAI Station.

With the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (ARTT) or the Tulip Festival Card, you have much more flexibility for your trip!

Also, if you’d like to visit multiple locations in one day.

For example, this card is for you if you’d like to visit other tourist attractions, such as Haarlem, Zaanse Schans, or even Zaandam.

You can travel unlimitedly with this card.

Who should not buy this card?

If your hotel is near the Schiphol or Amsterdam RAI Station, or you are sure you do not plan to visit other places after the Keukenhof, this card might not be for you.

A one-way ticket might be a better option.

The best tourist card to visit the Keukenhof

If you’d like an Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (ARTT), there is a better option.

It’s Tulip Festival Card and it includes:

  • The Keukenhof admission ticket.
  • Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket (ARTT).
  • Amsterdam Audio Guide.
  • Tulip Festival Digital Guide.

Amsterdam Audio Guide is a tourist-friendly app that tells you the history of Amsterdam and the secrets that only experts know. It also allows you to design your own unique walking route.

The Tulip Festival Digital Guide tells you everything you need to know about Keukenhof and recommends the best route through the garden.

With the Amsterdam Audio Guide and Tulip Festival Digital Guide, you need a local guide no more.

Your one-day Keukenhof itinerary

If you like to have a long day and maximize the value of your Tulip Festival Card, here is what you can do:

In the morning

I suggest visiting the park as early as possible to avoid the crowd.

You can have a much better experience when only a few people are around you.

It is also much easier to take nice pictures!

Stay at the park for at least 3 hours to explore the best part of the garden.

The garden is enormous, so you want to stay there for a long time!

Beautiful garden with many different kind of flowers at Kuekenhof

Be sure to check your Tulip Festival Digital Guide before your visit so you know where to start.

As a reminder, please only stay briefly at the entrance. Most people start taking pictures once they enter the museum; there are more beautiful tulips if you go further!

In the afternoon

Keukenhof is a garden, not a tulip field.

If you want to see the tulip field, sorry, it is not in the park; you must exit it.

Tulip fields we saw on our bikes

There are some places near the park where you can rent a bike, but trust me, you want to join this very affordable bike tour because you will have a professional guide showing you the blooming tulips, taking nice pictures, and telling you more about the Dutch tulip industry.

One time, my partner and I were on our bikes looking for blooming tulips, it took us more than an hour…

If you want an unforgettable experience, try this helicopter tour. It will blow your mind for sure!
